James joined First Nations Legal and Research Services in July 2025. Prior to joining the team at FNLRS, he spent over 5 years living in Darwin, most recently practicing as a native title lawyer at the Northern Land Council (NLC). In this role, he advised on native title and land rights, resources and energy projects, sacred site and cultural heritage protection, legislative reform and spent time acting as the Legal Practice Manager of the NLC’s native title and litigation practice.
James completed a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce at Monash University. He has also practiced in criminal law and served as a Judge’s Associate at the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory. In his spare time, James enjoys anything in nature and music.
